Objectives:
This prospective study aims to elucidate the factors affecting adherence with early intervention for congenital torticollis.
Hypothesis:
Treatment outcome in congenital torticollis will be more significantly related to parental expectations of the intervention program than their level of their adherence, satisfaction with the therapist or health attitudes. Parental adherence to the intervention program will be more significantly influenced by their expectations and beliefs about the program than their health attitudes.
Methods:
Infants (N=50 boys and girls) referred with a diagnosis of congenital torticollis, and participate in a home based intervention program designed by a physiotherapist.
Three questionnaires: P-MISS Parent Medical Interview Satisfaction Scale, Health Opinion Survey and CEQ-P Credibility/Expectancies Questionnaire-Parent Version will be answered by the mothers on initial, intermediate, and final visit.
Further information related to mother's and other family member's history, prior experience with torticollis, child's birth history, time lapse from identification of problem until initial treatment, who identified problem, who performs the recommended program, compliance to the recommended frequency of the exercises, reason for termination will be obtained.
Analysis-Correlations between the independent (predictive) variables will be examined both in univariate and multivariate methods and significant relationships will be highlighted. |
