As of 2006, there is an ongoing collaboration between the Neonatal Department of Hille Yaffe Medical Center and the Ruppin Academic Center School of Engineering. This collaboration has developed a methodology to implement a quality management system, creating processes and methods to support smooth and consistent integration once the child returns to the community.
- Research Objectives: a. Examine the effectiveness of the quality management infrastructure in support of the integration, b. Examine to what extent the processes support effective usage of community health services by the families.
- Work assumptions: Examine the procedure where integration tools operated in the hospital's infrastructure, enable the creation of consistent and smooth health care and collaboration between the community and hospital care givers.
- Research methods: The research is conducted in two phases. The first phase is mainly data collection of types of services, frequency and intensity given to children in their first year of life. The second phase will compare the data once the quality management processes are implemented, supporting a smooth integration between hospitals and community services. In addition, satisfaction surveys will be conducted among families and community care givers.
- Research importance: Community health services are responsible for the postnatal care. This commitment requires a strong integration between hospital neonatal departments and the community services.
In order to ensure regular and smooth care, it should be based on an effective usage of community services, its availability and parents' knowledge on these services. Thus, it is very important to maintain a strong integration between hospitals and the community services. Research conclusions will support the development of community services policy and guidelines to improve the quality of postnatal care with minimum cost.
