ICT – Working for the Patient – "Maccabi Online"
 
Maccabi has transformed its information system into a tool for patient collaboration, education and communication predominantly via a secured patient internet site that can be accessed by the Maccabi member, who receives his own unique user name and password which grants him access to his own information, from his home computer or from a self-service station at any of Maccabi's 150 branch offices:
  • Physician Visits – The Maccabi member has access to the list of all of his visits to physicians
  • Laboratory Tests – Patients can see their laboratory test results as soon as they are completed. He can also see past laboratory tests and if he has certain tests that he repeats regularly to monitor a chronic condition, he can view the test results over time in graphic form:
  • Results of Radiology Tests – Results of radiology tests are made available to the patient via the internet site at the same time that they are transmitted to his physician.
  • Personal Drug List – The patient can access the list of drugs he is taking and has taken in the past.        
  • Diet and Nutrition – The Maccabi member can enter his weight ,height and age, and the site will automatically access relevant blood tests such as cholesterol levels and will the calculate his body weight index (BMI) and provide him with advise about appropriate diet options.
  • Cardiac Risk Factors – The patient may determine what his risk level is for cardiovascular disease by entering the relevant information at the site. An algorithm, based on the Framingham measure, will calculate his cardiac risk. 
 
 
The Maccabi member can also use the website to manage his administrative relationship with Maccabi and access various services:
 
  • Updating Personal Data – If a member has moved to a new home or changed his telephone number, he can access his administrative file and enter updated information
  • Account Status –Most Maccabi members have entered into an agreement with Maccabi allowing Maccabi to deduct co-payments and premiums for supplemental health insurance directly from their bank account. Members are encouraged to check their Maccabi account status on-line, in addition to the quarterly account mailed to hem in hard copy at home.
  • Scheduling Appointments – Maccabi members can schedule medical appointments interactively on line by calling up the name of provider and entering the date they would like to visit. The site the lists the time slots available and the member chooses and confirms his appointment.
  • Ordering Drugs from the Pharmacy – Once the physician has entered an electronic prescription from his computer into the system, the patient may access the prescription and relay it online to the pharmacy of his choice. When he is ready to pick up his medication, it is ready and waiting for him and he does not have to waste time waiting in line to be served.
  • Registration for Supplementary Health Insurance – The Maccabi member may sign up for membership in Maccabi's supplementary health insurance plans
  • Travel Insurance – The member may purchase travel insurance on line which covers him for health care services abroad.
 
In addition to all of the above, the Maccabi Internet Site provides the Maccabi member with an up-to-date service directory, which lists all providers available to Maccabi members including place, date and times of service and a map that shows the member how to get there. The site also includes health education materials and is constantly updated with the latest news and benefits for the members.
